I highly recommend SoAZ pools. They have transformed the backyard of our new home into an oasis in the desert. We have completed other construction projects in the past and issues will always arise as you work through the building process but what I really love about SoAZ is you always have someone to reach out to with any concern and they always respond quickly. We looked at a few pool companies within Tucson and I am so glad that we went with Southern Arizona (SoAZ) Pools. They were so easy to work with through design and were very thorough. They took care of all the permitting and even the HOA and at no stage were they pushy on upgrades. They just offered options (you’ll be surprised at how many they are and what they actually cost vs what you think they cost)

Roy took great care of us through design, offering options as we went and also managing our last minute changes.

During construction we had Braun Barney as our construction superintendent. Braun was always on hand to answer questions over the phone and when I needed him here to check something out he was straight over.

Throughout the project Itzel was providing regular updates on schedule and ongoing work and was always there to answer questions.

John managed the finances and made sure that payments were seamless and easy to make.

Bo was the pool technician that did our start up, we liked him so much we have kept him on to carry out our weekly pool maintenance.

You can see that over at SoAZ they have such a fantastic team around them. Something that you don’t often see with construction companies is complete control and and such a good working relationship with each other. Excellent experience. From the first meeting through the final walk through, the whole team was great. The project couldn't have gone smoother and the finished pool is better than I even imagined. The one negative was the landscape manager, who was highly unprofessional.

Last but not least, Braun was at our house multiple times a week, making sure the construction was running smoothly and on time. Plus, he was only a phone call or text away when questions or minor issues came up. Construction was completed within a staggering 6 weeks—I honestly still can’t believe how quickly it went by. Our kids have been swimming every day since summer kicked off, and we can wholeheartedly say it was the best decision we ever made! Happy to give SoAZ our highest recommendation.

We had a great experience with the SoAz team: Roy Lewallen - Design Consultant, Itzel Rodriguez - Construction Coordinator and Braun Barney - Field Superintendent. They managed the design and construction process, including subcontractors, very well. I have 35 years experience is construction management and I’m not easily impressed. This team impressed me and turned over a quality pool on time.

We just completed our pool with SoAz May of 2025. 50 days from excavation to water! We absolutely love our new backyard oasis!! We are in a new build with a miniature backyard. SoAz packed a lot of punch in our small space utilizing every inch. I love listening to the water flow over my spillway and nothing beats turning on the pool/spa features from my cellphone!!! I am extremely pleased with our experience and highly recommend SoAz for your pool build.

The process from design, to permit, to build, to final completion was rather smooth, with timely communication from SoAz along the way. As with any project, there are bound to be a few hiccups. SoAz was responsive to questions or concerns.

DESIGN: I had a specific vision that needed to blend with accessibility for my elderly parents and Designer Matt Miller helped us achieve that. He was very efficient and revised the design several times until it was just right. Raised spa by our entry steps doubles as a hand hold and we widened the entry steps. We did not want a sun shelf in our limited the pool size, so we opted to add a bump out bench to maximize swim space. This has been a great addition for adults to relax in the pool and converse with those in the spa or on the patio. Design attention to detail was impressive, down to the hide-it lids in the travertine for our skimmer and auto fill. What is usually an eyesore is invisible!!

Plaster, tile, and hardscape decisions can get overwhelming and I changed my mind a few times along the way. Itzel Rodriguez the Construction Coordinator was amazing and ordered samples and sent photos of SoAz completed projects to help with the decision process.

CONSTRUCTION: Itzel kept me informed during the entire process of what was happening when. Utilities marking, staking the yard, excavation, shotcrete, tile and decking, plaster, and chemical start-up and walk-thru. Once the permitting process was done things moved quickly!

The subs that SoAz works with were great. We chose a tricky tile (hexagon shaped) for our spa corner spillway and the masons (thank you Kevin) were amazing and laid it precisely. I adore watching the water flow over my gorgeous spillway. We chose silver travertine coping and decking and the masons were very meticulous with levels and rubber mallets lining up the tiles. For a tumbled natural stone, there is virtually no variation at the edges. No stubbed toes happening in our yard! Really quite talented masons.

SoAz also handled all the yard grading and worked with our gutter company, leaving receptacles for the gutter downspouts to tie into.

We went with a dark PebbleSheen (Ocean Blue) and we love the modern color with the sparkle of the abalone shells. The plaster is smooth and my kids never have bloody toes after hours of swimming.

COMPLETION: Don’t let the mess and chaos scare you, they got you. They will get it all back to base. Better than base. Braun Barney was our project super and he checked in often with the subs and me. If I had any questions or concerns he was quick to respond and address. Everything was cleaned up and they re-rocked access ways, the gate and wall were put back up, and an auto close added to the gate. Braun did a final walk-thru for a final punch list.

CONCLUSION: I highly recommend SoAz. We solicited several proposals with different pool builders. SoAz wasn’t the cheapest, but they weren’t the most expensive either. We really liked working with Matt during the proposal phase and appreciated his quick responses and follow through. Based on our initial interactions with Matt, a personal referral and their online reviews, we decided to move forward with SoAz. We were not disappointed!! You won’t be either.

We recently engaged Southern Arizona Pools for a major backyard renovation. We’re very pleased with the final result.
The scope of the project included construction of an in-ground spool with waterfall, expansion of an existing patio, construction of an outdoor kitchen and fireplace and landscaping. While the project encountered a few bumps along the way (which were to be expected), once those issues were brought to the team’s attention, they were responsive and worked closely with us to find solutions. Our special thanks go out to Steve Minor who managed our project well.

What stood out was their willingness to take responsibility and make adjustments to ensure we were satisfied. Every crew that Southern Arizona Pools used on our project was professional, and the quality of the final construction is excellent. We feel as though the final outcome exceeded our expectations.

We had our pool built back in 2022, and to be honest, the process got off to a rough start — especially with the builder assigned to our project, Tim, and some early customer service experiences with SoAz. At the time, it left us feeling disappointed and unsure about the company we had trusted with such a big investment.

Working with SoAZ Pools has absolutely blown me away!!! Project took 2.5 months and the entire team has been top notch!! Justin Halbert brought my vision to life for my irregular shaped lot and the design is just stunning!!! Our Super Braun was very responsive and was always checking on us to see if we had any questions or concerns. Top Notch Landscaping did our Pavers and Travertine tile/ water feature tile and always worked hard and did very clean work! Very professional! John Carreon did our Landscaping and lights and we will be using him for our front yard in the near future. Beautiful job with an inground pool installation with travertine tile, waterfall, fireplace and turf. Our yard looks like a vacation retreat now. So Az pools were courteous and professional. SOAZ did a fantastic job on our backyard -- pool, fire features/table, travertine, general turf, putting green and landscaping. Build took less than 6 weeks. We had one small issue with rust on one of the tiles and they were out the next day and fixed it. They also rolled our putting green several times to get the speed we wanted. Southern Arizona Pools was the best choice for our first new pool building experience.

Being in the pool industry for nearly 20 years in construction and design and sales, I had a great idea of all the features we wanted and was able to partner up with my wife on all the design details we wanted to implement. I was initially thinking of building the pool myself, but the thought of scheduling and coordinating on top of an already busy schedule drove me to spend more money for the convenience and boy, did it pay off.

We met with several pool companies and let them go through the sales process that I was all too familiar with being on that side of the table. We met with the Designer, Matt Miller, and already felt comfortable knowing that he had come from the construction side of swimming pools. He sold to us all the benefits of Southern Arizona Pools the way I would sell to others, with giving detailed information and low pressure sales tactics. He genuinely cares about the process and the final product. It was an easy decision that we would be going with SOAZ (Southern Arizona Pools) after several meetings with him, and the fact that they were about 5% less expensive than the next company was just icing on the cake.

We signed the paper work on November 21st knowing that we didn't want to start the pool until mid to late January. This was exactly how the time line played out. In the interim, our contact person was Itzel, and she was great at keeping us informed within the process. The communication was exactly as promised by Matt.

The day that both the permit and HOA approval came in, we were told that our Project Manager, Steve Minor, would be out to check the yard and give the green light for excavation to begin. The excavators were at our house within days and the process begin. Steve kept us in the loop on every detail and what to expect next in the process. He was very knowledgeable and responsive with any inquiries. That coupled with the crews attention to detail allowed the construction to carry on seamlessly with almost no hiccups. They were completing the interior finish within the 8 weeks as Matt, Itzel, and Steve had promised. Our pool is complete and we couldn't be happier with the final product.

We asked around when my wife and I started thinking about building a pool. Almost everyone we talked to had the same story: they didn’t like their pool builder. It was always complaints first, not excitement about the finished product. That changed the moment we connected with Southern Arizona Pools.

We had an in-ground pool installed by Southern Arizona Pools and we are incredibly pleased with how it turned out. We went to 5 different pool companies in Tucson, and we decided to go with Southern Arizona Pools, and it was a great experience. First, we met Matt M, he did a great job helping us design our pool and choose options, when we finalized the contract SoAZPools took care of all the paperwork for the permits and HOA. Braun B was our superintendent, he was always available to answer any questions and concerns. Always coming by to check on the job, he was professional and a pleasure to deal with. He made the pool build go smoothly. SoAZPools started the project on January 31 and finished on March 18, it took them 47 days to complete the job! All their contractors did an excellent job, John the landscaper and his team did beautiful work, all the cactus and succulents look great, The last part of the project was startup, Bo did a wonderful job explaining how to maintain the pool water and how to operate the pump and filter. I would not hesitate to recommend Southern Arizona Pools. We are more than pleased with the job they did, our experience with them went beyond what we expected.

We felt very fortunate that Southern Arizona Pools was able to creatively execute the vision we had for our new pool. Our goal was to create a pool that matched our natural surroundings and materials of our organic Hacienda home. We appreciate that they allowed us to be hands on and the collaboration succeeded! The craftmanship of the flagstone decking, water feature and firepit are outstanding. They look like they were part of the original home. We installed a pool, hot tub, and backyard landscape through SoAzPools. We are extremely satisfied and over the moon happy with how everything turned out. The guy overseeing our project was Steve Minor and he was just fantastic to work with. He went above and beyond to make our vision come to life in our budget. If we had an issue, he made sure it was fixed. I think we only had one bump during the whole process and again they fixed it for us. I would highly recommend them and would/will definitely use them for any of our future needs.

Everyone on the team at SoAZ were an absolute pleasure to work with! I can't say enough great things about their whole team! There are not enough superlatives I can say for SOAZ Pools. Our backyard was dirt. These guys worked with us in designing for 3 months. Every time we wanted to make an additional change, Roy (Maybe the most patient pool/backyard designer on the planet) would say, “no problem, let me work on that” and he would have new drawings in a couple of days. Once we had chosen them and decided on our final design, they set a date a few weeks out to give HOA time to complete their review. When it was time to go, their workers were here bang on and let me tell you, they didn’t mess around. SOAZ has a great group of sub-contractors that exceeded our expectations in every way. Professional, respectful, hard workers that did great work. All these workers were being supervised by the skilled foreman “Braun”! He was here practically every day, sometimes with Cliff, others without, and his steady hand resulted in the backyard being about 90% complete in like six weeks. In summary, we had a pretty good idea up front that these guys would be the best choice for us (we had talked with six different companies), these guys exceeded the high expectations we had and then some. I just wish there were more businesses that operated with the excellence that these guys do. Thank you SOAZ Pools. We recently had our pool put in by SoAz pools. I don't even know where to begin describing the phenomenal service this company provided to us. The entire project stayed on schedule (pool was completed in 35 days from excavation to final product). We were updated on any changes that were needed. From initial visit for pool design - to completion of pool, hardscape and landscaping within about 5 weeks. Entire crew was very professional and did outstanding work. I'm so happy that we chose Southern Arizona Pools. The guys are true professionals! Roy was helpful in the design process and got the ball rolling. After that, it was Steve who oversaw the whole project. He made sure the job was done on time, even after we added some additional work. A pool doesn't happen overnight. That being said, there are a lot of people around working. They are very considerate. It was nice to see the same faces throughout the process. This really eased my mind about having "strangers" around my house all day. Steve and Monty even managed to win over my dog, lol! Bottom line... you won't have any regrets with these guys.

Steve came out the other day to just check on a minor thing for us and he spent so much time educating us on the ins and outs of maintenance for our pool and even took our sample of water and gave a detailed analysis of how to better our current routine. We are beyond grateful and happy that our pool was built by the team at SoAZ pools! we started working with Justin back in February as we had a fall out with another company who abandoned our project. Communication was always seamless, and Justin helped us so much getting back on track with construction and gave a very clear picture of the process coming up. With all the city permit BS switching contractors and project planning they broke ground again in May and our pool was finished at the end of July. Every subcontractor that came to our home was friendly and hardworking, the amount these guys accomplished on a single day at a time was insane. We love our new backyard by Southern Arizona Pools. Our property in Marana had a fairly big space to work with and design consultant Justin helped us get the most out of it. I like how he can take your general ideas of what you’re looking for and create something special. He’s also patient with changing the design until it’s exactly how you want it. From excavation to completion the project proceeded on schedule, even through the hot summer months we had this year. Their landscaping consultant, John, put the finishing touch on by adding a nice variety of trees and plants around the perimeter. As to be expected, there were a few issues at the end, but they were all resolved fairly quickly. I would recommend this company to anyone looking for a great new pool and backyard.

Don’t look any further for a pool builder. These guys are the best! Justin was so fun to work with, he came up for a concept that we LOVE for our smaller size yard. He was working with a blank slate and created something so perfect for our space. They nailed it! We have heard horror stories from friends who have built with other companies and are so glad we had such an amazing experience. There were a couple hiccups along the way, but I feel like that happens when you’re building anything. What matters is how they correct it and these guys will make it right! Cliff has been in construction for years and definitely knows what he’s doing! They are so efficient, our process started in March (from 3D concept/design), they started excavation in July and it was finished in September! We had a friend whose pool was being built for over 2 years and had major problems!!!! I can’t imagine the headache so if you want to avoid that, call SOAZ! You won’t be disappointed!

After some research and getting different quotes from different companies, we decided to hire SoAZpools to install our pool in the spring of 2021. The attentiveness and communication that their company showed is what sold it for me. The timeframe was quoted as 4 months start to finish, but because of the COVID related issues, it took 6 months. We expected it to take at least that long even after the 4 month quote. Of course there were hiccups along the way, but SoAZpools was very attentive and would take care of any and all issues that came up. We have had the pool completed for 2 years in October and have been very happy. Even long after if I have any questions or any slight issues arise(because we are novice pool owners) SoAZ is happy to help and or fix. We highly recommend and the finished product speaks for itself!
